Priming flask and wheel-key (1884.28.8)
A special key or spanner was an essential tool for the wheel-lock firearm. Before firing, it was used to crank the wheel back so it was ‘fully sprung’. This device from the late 16th or early 17th century incorporates the key into a horn flask for priming powder, reducing the number of accessories a sporting shooter needed to carry.
